Week #1 - MKTG 4396 - Loudly

For our first week, I decided to review a generative AI tool that I have not used before. I hoped to review MusicLM but did not realize that there is a waitlist for interested parties, which I did sign up for. I was very interested in MusicLM because I believe it can convert a text prompt into short snippets of music. This interested me greatly because of the possible variations you could create with the tool. Hopefully, I will gain access to it before this course is over so that I may review it in a later post.

So with that, let's get to the tool that I was actually able to use and give my brief thoughts on it. The tool that I chose to review was Loudly. Loudly is a generative AI tool that can make music for you based on a few different inputs. These inputs include a music Genre that you can select from a dropdown menu, a genre blend option to mix two different genres, an energy level (which to be honest I am not sure what it did), a combination of up to seven different instruments, a tempo range, length of duration (30 seconds to 7 minutes), and it what key you would like the music in primarily. Almost all of these were optional, with the only one actually necessary to generate the music being a genre (seen below with a lock icon).

Overall, this tool was very simple to use and was self-explanatory. After a brief waiting period, the tool generated three different songs and even gave them names to differentiate between them which was a nice touch. Melodies of Tranquility and Enchanted Lullaby were both excellent and cohesive songs, which really impressed me. On the first listen I did not think that Serenade Under Moonlight was very good, however after a few listens it grew on me. One of the drums generated oddly loudly (pun intended) which threw me off at first. I think if you were also able to adjust the outputs after generation was complete that would be fantastic. I have no idea if they have plans to implement this in the future but I do hope so as I plan on messing around with Loudly a lot more in the future.
